SUMMARY:Dr. Jessica Pryce: Eradicating Racism and Bias in Foster Care
DESCRIPTION:Launched in response to the killing of George Floyd and many other Black Americans\, this 3-part lecture series addressed systemic racism and the issues giving rise to the disproportionate number of Black children in foster care. This series was hosted in partnership with Children’s Law Center of California & the LA County Department of Children and Family Services. \nAugust 27: Strengthening Families Using a Racial Equity Lens \nSeptember 3: Strengthening Families Using Partnership as the Posture \nSeptember 10: Strengthening Families Using Transformational Strategies \n  \n \n\n\nDr. Pryce is currently the Executive Director of the Florida Institute for Child Welfare at Florida State University. Dr. Pryce has worked on the frontlines of child welfare\, conducted primary research\, been a policy advisor to Florida’s legislature and taught graduate level courses in child welfare. Her paramount goal includes re-building and leading a child welfare system that focuses on strengthening families instead of pulling them apart. SUMMARY:UCLA Child Welfare Summer Academy 2020
DESCRIPTION:COVID-19 disrupted the summer internship and volunteer experiences for many Bruins. In response\, the UCLA Pritzker Center launched its inaugural Summer Child Welfare Academy with 160+ students participating. In this three week program\, Bruins learned about the child welfare system and its many facets\, including education\, adoption\, and policy making. SUMMARY:COVID-19 Community Town Halls
DESCRIPTION:  \nIn the early days of COVID-19\, UCLA faculty and staff were scrambling to respond to the needs of the community. In the spirit of partnership\, the town halls were launched to combine efforts and respond more efficiently to the needs of the community and our partners. Agencies\, such as the LA County Department of Children and Family Services and the Los Angeles County Office of Education\, joined us for these collaborative discussions with faculty and staff from across UCLA’s campus. \n
