Doctoral Student Researcher
Juan J. Nunez is a fourth-year PhD student in the Social Welfare Department in the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs. He is a quantitative researcher with more than six years of experience working in the child and adult welfare fields at the federal and state levels to improve data collection and quality. Juan brings his methodological and data analytics expertise to the UCLA Pritzker Center to support its mission of bridging academic resources with community needs, focusing on research, education, and practice to reduce the need for foster care and promote an equitable child welfare system. Juan’s goal is to apply his knowledge on welfare systems to improve outcomes for everyone, particularly children and families who have interacted with child protective services systems.
In addition to being part of the UCLA community, Juan also works on the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System project, contributes to the National Adult Protective Services Association, and serves on the WRMA Inc. Institutional Review Board and the Montgomery College Data Science Advisory Board. Finally, Juan’s research focuses on analyzing community-level factors and environmental factors associated with child and adult welfare interventions.
