
Laura Liévano-Karim, PhD

Laura Liévano-Karim, PhD, is a postdoctoral research fellow at the UCLA Pritzker Center. Her research lies at the intersection between social work and public health; specifically, she focuses on violence prevention and intervention, youth development, and child welfare in Colombia and the United States. Her ongoing research projects in the United States encompass the intersection of domestic violence and child welfare, the delivery of culturally responsive care for Black children in foster care, the identification of barriers to racial equity within the child welfare system, and the elimination of implicit bias, to advance fairness and equity, in child welfare decision-making. Dr. Liévano-Karim has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Carleton University, a master’s degree in public policy from Universidad de Los Andes, and a PhD in Social Welfare from UCLA.
