Doctoral Student Researcher

Juan J. Nunez is a PhD student in the Social Welfare Department at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, with more than seven years of experience in child and adult welfare research at the federal, state, and local levels. At the UCLA Pritzker Center, Juan brings methodological and data analytics expertise to support the Center's mission of bridging academic resources with community needs, advancing research, education, and practice toward a more equitable child welfare system. His goal is to apply his expertise in welfare systems and analytics to improve outcomes for all, particularly children and families who have interacted with child protective services.

Beyond UCLA, Juan contributes to the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System project through his work at WRMA Inc., where he also serves on the Institutional Review Board. He supports several research initiatives through the National Adult Protective Services Association and serves on the Data Science Advisory Board at Montgomery College. His own academic research examines the intersections of poverty, medical and social welfare nonprofit services, migration, climate change, and child welfare.
